Tumaini joined our family in 2018. His name means „hope“ in Swahili. He was almost 2 years old when we received him and he only weighed 12 lbs at that time! His mother had died shortly after giving birth to him. His father tried his best to raise the infant. But baby formular is very expensive and hard to get when you live in an African village. Tumaini was very delayed in his general development and we could not figure out the reason. He also has club feet that have been under constant treatment. It was only recently in 2023 that he was diagnosed with a major heart problem! This had been the reason for his health problems and his delayed development. Tumaini had open heart surgery in Tanzania, which was successful and a miracle! Since he has recovered from this surgery, he is doing really well and he is catching up with everything. He is still in kindergarten. Next year he will start school. Tumaini is our little hope!
